CASE STUDY
Cisco wide area network
Situation:
The client, a business employing approx 60 users in the
Telecommunications market with three sites nationwide, asked Signal
Networks to develop a much more reliable network across all three
of their sites. They already had a Cisco VPN in place between all
sites but they were constantly having problems with slow access
and dropped connections. Their email server was also in need of
an update and they were keen to utilise all features available in
Exchange 2003 for internal and remote users.
Requirements:
- Improve network access between sites.
- Provide better access for remote users to offices and email.
- Mobile access to company email.
- Upgrade Exchange 5.0 to Exchange 2003.
Resolution:
Once work had started an inspection carried out
by Signal Networks discovered that the configuration on the Cisco
routers and PIX firewalls contained many errors which were causing
the WAN to become unstable. The Windows servers were also not configured
for optimum WAN performance, replication between servers in the
WAN also contained a number of errors.
Within days of working with Signal Networks the
network was finally beginning to function as it should with an improved
service throughout the WAN and data synchronisation functioning
correctly.
Exchange server 2003 was installed at the head
office with users in remote offices configured to access their mailboxes
easily and securely via the VPN.
This greatly improved the company's productivity
and solved the delay of waiting long periods of time waiting for
IT issues to be resolved.
A remote support contract with Signal Networks
successfully resolved the problems the users were having.
