Latest figures from Dell Secureworks suggest that the Cryptolocker ransomware has infected up to 250,000 PC’s.
The aggressive ransomware which has targeted computers in the UK, US and Europe as well as China and Canada encrypts files and demands a ransom of up to $300. The virus is being spread via a zip file attachment which appears to come from a genuine source. Once downloaded the virus encrypts files on the user’s PC and demands a ransom in order to decrypt and release them back to the owner.
The latest figures suggest that up to 250,000 PC’s could be affected, and of these 19% are in the UK.
