NSS Labs a leading information security research and advisory company have produced their 2014 Next Generation Firewalls Comparative Analysis with the results placing Fortinet products above average.
- Total cost of ownership (TCO)
The report noted that “there is usually a trade-off between security effectiveness and performance; a product’s security effectiveness should be evaluated within the context of its performance (and vice versa). This ensures that new security protections do not adversely impact performance and security shortcuts are not taken to maintain or improve performance”.
The tested Next Generation Firewalls tested were:
- Barracuda F800b
- Check Point 13500
- Cisco ASA 5525-X
- Cisco ASA 5585-X SSP60
- Cisco FirePOWER 8350
- Cyberoam CR2500iNG-XP
- Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800
- Fortinet FortiGate-1500D
- Fortinet FortiGate-3600C
- McAfee NGF-1402
- Palo Alto Networks PA-3020
- WatchGuard XTM1525
Their results found the Fortinet FortiGate-1500D and FortiGate-3600C in the top recommended section stating that they were “in the Recommended category for both security effectiveness and TCO per protected-Mbps” and that “these products provide a high level of detection and value for money”.
