As part of the Microsoft update due to be released next Tuesday there will be 6 patches included. The 6 patches will address a total of 19 vulnerabilities. These bugs have been discovered in Internet Explorer, MS Office, .NET Framework as well as all Windows systems from XP onwards.
The vulnerabilities relate to the legacy codebase present in all Windows systems, including the latest Windows 8.
4 of the 6 patches are rated critical. Internet Explorer vulnerabilities pose the biggest threat as they simply require the user to click visits a malicious website in order to exploit. Cyber criminals can easily action drive by targeted style attacks this way.
One of the patches, labelled ‘important’ addresses a remote-code execution bug found in MS Office 2003, 2007 and 2010. Fortunately potential victims must be tricked into opening a malevolent file in order for it to attack. The final patch labelled ‘moderate’ in severity prevents leaks from Windows Vista, 7 and Server 2008
The patches and update will be available from Tuesday 13th Nov.
