The vulnerabilities relate to the legacy codebase present in all Windows systems, including the latest Windows 8.

4 of the 6 patches are rated critical. Internet Explorer vulnerabilities pose the biggest threat as they simply require the user to click visits a malicious website in order to exploit. Cyber criminals can easily action drive by targeted style attacks this way.

One of the patches, labelled ‘important’ addresses a remote-code execution bug found in MS Office 2003, 2007 and 2010. Fortunately potential victims must be tricked into opening a malevolent file in order for it to attack. The final patch labelled ‘moderate’ in severity prevents leaks from Windows Vista, 7 and Server 2008

The patches and update will be available from Tuesday 13th Nov.
