A staggering 7.82 million adults are disengaged from technology and have not once used the internet. On top of this, a study has reported that 16 million people in the UK lack the most basic of online skills.
Go ON UK is a charity that promotes digital literacy. They have pledged to get 4 million more Brits online in the near future. Basic skills such as using a search engine, sending and receiving emails, completing online applications and accessing information online are the tasks highlighted as the core and most faulted amongst the uneducated IT population.
The charity has worked with international corporations such as Lloyds banking and the BBC. Providing training in the 4 basic skills outlined above.
Two thirds of small to medium businesses in the UK don’t have an online presence and only 14% sell products online. This is a potential loss of billions of pounds of revenue; the ability to purchase goods online could add a lot of value to the struggling UK economy.
