Cisco has announced the acquisition of Wiltshire based small cell technology firm Ubiquisys, its fourth acquisition of 2013.
This year the networking giant has already invested in data centre management firm Cloupia as well as cloud computing firm Meraki. The recent acquisitions mean Cisco can expand its repertoire to offer cloud managed solutions. The Ubiquisys gain means Cisco will soon be able to incorporate small cell technologies into their advanced networking solutions.
Cisco’s strong reputation with investing in existing specialist companies and not in house research and development is an approach that offers them more flexibility in terms of time. By taking on these innovative technologies as their own, the cycle of development is in their hands and not that of the previous third parties.
The acquisition is thought to have cost Cisco just over £200 million.
