A global study on disruptive cyber attacks carried out by BT has identified Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are a growing concern for UK organisations.
A previous survey revealed over half of UK organisations that took part said their systems had been down for more than 6 hours in the past 12 months and over three quarters of them reported being attacked more than once.
However when examining the attitude and response to the DDoS attacks it highlighted that only about half of the UK organisations have a response plan in place and less than 1 in 10 UK decision makers believe they have sufficient resources to counteract an attack.
DDoS attacks can cause major disruption for organisations by making websites unavailable, overwhelming datacentres or making networks unusable. The attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to fend off. Recent DDoS have highlighted multiplatform attacks, requiring a dedicated mitigation team to track and combat the threat across multiple fronts as automated systems are less likely to offer adequate protection.
In addition to having a security solution in place to protect your business, it is also essential you have a strategy in the event your security is compromised. For more information and advice on IT security give us a call on 0845 370 2202 or email us at [email protected].
