A London University has devised a new online security system using identity cards to access secure websites.
Named Uni-IDM, the system allows users to create a unique identity card for each secure website they access. These cards are then securely stored within the computer, allowing the user to access them as and when they are needed. Uni-IDM could become an alternative to more complex logging in systems that many websites have been adopting in recent years.
Password theft is increasing three fold year on year. Phishing emails are also rapidly increasing in volume, complexity and successfulness which is directly leading to this rise in the number of password compromises.
This new system hopes to provide a secure yet simple alternative to passwords.
