There are rumours beginning to fly in the tech world of a highly anticipated 8 core desktop processor.
The chip is currently being referred to as ‘Haswell-E’ and will boast 8 cores and 16 threads. It will be the first commercially available desktop CPU, the current highest spec standard desktop processor is the Intel Core i7.
The still to be officially named ‘Haswell-E’ will also benefit from a memory upgrade, offering users DDR4 enhanced performance. Of course there are 8 core chips on the market presently, but this will be the first commercial desktop processor of this size. The alternative up until now has been to purchase a Xeon chip and install it in your own device, but this chip alone would set you back £1500.
Eager users will have to be patient though, the chip isn’t due for release until late 2014.
