iOS 7 Protects Against Charger Attacks

The imminent iOS update due for release by Apple will include a security update to protect devices against charger based attacks that were revealed earlier this year.

The vulnerability, which can be exploited through a circuit board in a charger or docking station was exposed earlier this year and a proof of concept experiment was showcased at the Blackhat security conference last month. The vulnerability means malicious code can gain access to devices running iOS 6 and older via arbitrary software installed on a circuit board hidden in the charging unit or docking station.

iOS 7 has been released in beta and is due for release in Autumn.
