Java Applet Uses Stolen Cert

A malicious Java applet has been discovered on a German website disguised as a genuine Java update.

The faux update was named ‘Java ClearWeb Security Update’ and was authenticated by a genuine digital certificate stolen from an American energy firm and who was named as the author of the update. The applet was created using an exploit kit called ‘go01pack’ and is just one of many compromises targeted at Java in the last few months.

The latest update to patch Java, released on Monday addressed a further two vulnerabilities in Java.
