Android users are now viewing more mobile ad traffic than those using the iOS operating systems according to mobile advertising company Opera Mediaworks.
Opera Mediaworks states that less than 43% of all mobile ad traffic for 2014 was delivered to Android devices, compared to the 38% delivered to iOS devices. This is despite the fact that iOS devices generate 52% of the total revenue compared to Androids 33%. It is expected that Androids rise has been at the expense of BlackBerry and Symbian decreases.
Open Mediaworks have stated that “Samsung is the clear leader of the Android device market with more than 60% of impressions” followed by LG at 11% and Motorola at 5%. When talking about mobile ad traffic percentages, they cite “social-networking services are No. 1 for traffic volume; Arts & Entertainment generate the most revenue.”
When comparing geographical data, the United States continues to drive the majority of mobile ad traffic at 50% whilst Asia has overtaken Europe to become second.
With the growth of mobile ad traffic and device platforms available, businesses need to be aware of the security issues they now face. By operating a mobile device management policy, devices can be enrolled, configured, updated and secured.
