An independent certification programme to determine the resilience and quality of data centres is to be created by the DCA (Data Centre Alliance).
The certification will be developed by data centres themselves, industry professionals, suppliers and customers to create the first 100% independently audited data centre compliance guidelines. The certification will act as a datacentre MOT equivalent, based on business goals and not technical requirements.
Covering aspects ranging from connectivity, cabling and energy efficiency through to environmental control resilience, maintenance processes and physical site access, the certification will collate rules to ensure quality, security and operational integrity. Re-audits will be required every 2 years to maintain these high standards.
A platform to perform audits on datacentres worldwide is being created by the DCA. These audits will be undertaken by authorised 3rd parties to keep the certification easily accessible and economical.
