A Singapore research institute has revealed plans to introduce a voice activated security setting to Lenovo smart phones.
The technology would mean passwords and pin codes would be a thing of the past. The speak-to-unlock feature uses technology that measures the unique features of the human voice.
Speech recognition, also called voiceprint or voice biometrics is determined by digital signal processing and algorithm computing. This technology allows traits of individual’s speech to be extracted and used as an identity.
The feature is reported to also have potential value in the ecommerce and online banking fields, although further applications may be required.
The company are also focusing on translation technologies in order to boost profits and bring Lenovo phones into the competitive markets of Samsung and Apple.
