It’s not often that fashion features on the Signal Networks IT News page, but last night we saw technology and fashion walk hand in hand, straight down the red carpet.
X-Factor judge and ex-pussycat doll Nicole Scherzinger attended the EE 4G launch event at Battersea Power Station in London wearing a dress with a live twitter feed.
The dress was made by tech-fashion designers Cute Circuit from 8 metres of fine silk, 500 Swarovski crystals and 2000 LED lights. Using Bluetooth tweets sent via @EE or with the hashtag #tweetthedress were fed directly to the dress.
Cute Circuit specialise in creating digital fashion using LEDs. The wearable technologies have already caught the eyes of other celebrities such as Katy Perry and U2 front man Bono.
The products created by Cute Circuit are all RoHS compliant, meaning no lead or mercury is used. All manufacturing processes are ethical and clean and the textiles are Oeko Tex certified. Oeko Tex set the uniform benchmark for the evaluation of potentially harmful substances in textiles.
London based founders Ryan Genz and Francesca Rosella believe that it’s only a matter of time before the wearable technology and telecommunications industries meet.
