Two models of Xerox printers have been exposed to have an error which causes numbers on documents to change when photocopied.
The Xerox Workcentre 7556 and 7535 have both been discovered to have the error which is caused by the image compression standard Jbig2. The standard is used to shrink documents and images and has the ability to remove duplicate numbers, in this case Jbig2 has been removing and swapping out numbers in documents when photocopied. This error could lead to legal battles if important documents have been tampered with.
Various users have reported the error, which has seen the number 6 be turned into an 8 on numerous occasions along with other errors occurring regularly.
Xerox is currently working on a fix for the issue.
